Pioneers

 


 

   There were pioneers in academia and industries, who established the basis of the progress of chemistry in academia and chemical industries after the independence from Japanese occupation and the establishment of S. Korean government. They are the first generation of S. Korea' academia in chemistry and chemical industries.

 

Prof. Taikyue Ree (1902-1992) was the first Korean chemist who got doctoral degree from Kyoto Univ. in 1931 and served as a faculty member later at the same university. He became the first dean of the college of Liberal Art and Science, SNU and 1st President of KCS. more...

 

Dr. Dong-Hyuk Ahn (1906-2004) who was chemical engineer and planned to construct cement plant, fertilizers plant and steel mill when he was minister of Commerce and Industry. He established the groundwork for the industrialized Korea.  more ...

 

 

Dr. Joseph D. Park (1906-1989) was born in Hawaii of Korean parents and got Ph.D. at Ohio State University. His Korean name is "Daljo". He worked on fluorine chemistry, served as Chair of Div. of Fluorine chemistry, ACS in 1968. He also served as a 2nd president of KAIST from 1972-1974. more ...

 

Prof. Dong Il Kim (1908~1998) became a professor of Kyungsung Univ in September 1945 and a professor of Seoul National University (SNU) and the first dean of College of Engineering, SNU in 1946 when SNU was established. more ...

 

Dr. Hyung-Sup Choi (1920-2004) majoring in metallurgy from Minnesota University was the first president of KIST. He recruited many scientists and engineers to work at KIST from abroad and consolidated the function of KIST.  more ...
