Prof. Hakze Chon (1928-2015) joined KAIST in 1971 as a professor at Department of Chemistry, KAIST until 1994. He served as president of KAIST (1984-1986) and minister of Science and Technology in 1986.

  He graduated Seoul National University in 1951 and got his Ph. D. degree from Munchen University in Germany in 1956. He went to the United States in 1956 and worked as a research fellow at Pennsylvania State University and Mobil Oil Co. from 1961 till 1970. He came back to S. Korea in 1970 and served as a Director of National Science Museum of Korea.

  He was born in November 11, 1928 and passed away on November 30, 2015.

  He received  a Dongbaek-Jang, Order of Civil Merit in 1983 and an  Order of Service Merit-Chungjo in 1986.
