Prof. Dong Il Kim (1908~1998)

 

 


 

 Prof. Dong Il Kim  became a professor of Kyungsung Univ in September 1945 and a professor of Seoul National University (SNU) and the first dean of College of Engineering, SNU in 1946 when SNU was established. He also served as 3rd dean of the college.

 

He was one of charter members of the Korean Chemical Society (KCS) and served as 4th, 5th, 8th, 12th and 13th presidents  of KCS. He attended  a delegate of KCS with Prof. Sun Kyung Kim for KCS to join IUPAC at the 22nd GA of IUPAC in London in 1963. He was a chair of Committee for Building of Korea Chemical Hall in 1966 and accomplished it in 1971.

 

He served as the first president of Korean Association of Ceramics Industries in 1947 and the first president of Korean Society of Ceramics in 1957. he was first Vice President of Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies

 

He was born at Gangsu-gun, Pyungnam in 1908. He attended to Saga High school, Japan and graduated in 1929. He graduated Department of Applied Chemistry, Tokyo University in 1938. He got a job at Iwaki Glassware Co. and developed safety glass production. Later, he moved to Ganeka Textile Co. and worked at a ViscousRayon Plant in Pyungyang. He got a job  as plant manager of at Kyungsung Textile Co. at Yungdeungpo, Seoul and worked for three years before Independence.
